London uniforms
There are some very recognisable uniforms worn in London, in some cases for many hundreds of years. These have become part of British history and tradition and are common in snowglobes available in the city.

The King's Guard outside Buckingham Palace, wear immaculate red-and-black uniform and tall bearskin caps, The cap is from real bear and dates back to 1815 and the Battle of Waterloo, where they were used to make the soldiers look taller and fearsome.


The Yeomen Warders of His Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, are known as the Beefeaters. They are the ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London. There role is still to guard prisoners in the tower though there arent any now. They also guard the British crown jewels. Since the Victorian eras they have provide guided tours of the Tower of London.

Volunteer policemen were replaced in the rapidly expanding population of 1822 by a professional police force knick-named as the Peelers

The Household Cavalry were formed in 1661 and continue as The Life Guards and the Blues and Royals. The Household Cavalry Regiment, serve in armoured fighting vehicles and have been involved in many military operations throughout their history. They also carry out ceremonial duties as the 'The King's Life Guard' in London.
